SWINDON VILLAGE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Summer Tenn Newsletter 9 25th June 2004

Dear Parents, Staff and Governors,

Parent/Governor AGM - The time of the meeting next Wednesday, 30th June, has changed to 5.0Op.m. Mr. Chris Chamberlain, the new Head Teacher, will be present. Charmian Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Education, will be presenting me with a long-service award in recognition of my 31 years with Gloucestershire LEA. Each family should have received a copy of the Annual Report & an invitation to the meeting. Please note the following amendments to the contents of the report:

. Page 2 should state that it is written by Mrs. Sue Hillier-Richardson, Chair of Governors. Page 3 Natasha Barnett should have ICT under her responsibility instead of Newly Qualified Teacher.

. Page 12 under netball it should read boys & girls.

We are grateful to the Gloucestershire Echo for permission to publish articles from their publications.

Rugby - On Monday afternoon our Y5 team finished second in a tournament at the Prince of Wales Stadium. They played well to win one & draw 3 matches. Results were won 1-0 v Andoversford, drew 2-2 with Cleeve & Gotherington & drew 1-1 with Shurdington. Well done to the team: Calum Armstrong, Jacob Dutton-Keen, Ross Evans, Joe Geagan (Capt), Louis Kershaw, Aaron Lewis, Amy Slade, Matthew Th0mas, Steven Trinder & Luke Wellfair.

Cricket League Winners - On Tuesday, we won our league with a fine win against Dunalley Primary School by 249 runs for 2 wickets to their 240 for 4 wickets. Our good bow1i:ng display looked as if it was in vain until Matthew Adair (Y6) batted impressively in the last over to score 16 runs. This result meant that we are the unbeaten league winners & we move on to play in the Cheltenham finals. Yesterday we played in the Cheltenham Primary Schools' Knockout trophy at the Victoria Ground. After a good win against Holy Trinity we were unconvincing when losing against both Richard Pates, & Prestbury St. Mary's.

Cheltenham & District Athletics - On Thursday we took part in the Cheltenham field events at Lakeside Primary School. We await the final results.

Football - This afternoon our girls' team is taking part in a Cleeve Colts football 7-a-side tournament at Kayte Lane.

Swimming Awards - We congratulate the following Y4 children who were presented with swimming awards in Tuesday's assembly:'
