Local girl chosen to greet Queen.

Swindon Village Primary School Year 4 pupil has been chosen through an Echo competition to present a welcoming posy to HM The Queen when she begins her public walkabout in the Promenade on her visit to Cheltenham on Thursday March 25th 2004.

Beth Langdon of Hyde Lane was selected by the Echo from a competition for her letter saying why she would like to meet the Queen. Beth had written a letter of congratulations to the Queen on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee and had had a very nice answer. This had prompted her to enter the competition. It turns out that letter writing to the Queen runs in the family as both Mother and Grandmother had, in their younger days each written on appropriate occasions and received a reply. During an interview with the Echo, the replies to three generations were on display and photographs were taken of the proud recipients.

Year 4 teacher Mrs Daly and School Head Mr Williams were each delighted that this honour had fallen to one of their pupils.
